While there was no word on bringing back mask mandates this Friday, there was an announcement concerning the ones that remain. All remaining masking requirements in Ontario were scheduled to be lifted on April 27, but in the wake of the increased number of cases without a more general mask mandate, and the spread of the BA.2 variant, the Provincial government is now waiting till June 11 to get rid of those other mandates. It’s a good time for both these topics considering that Monday May 2 is also the official kick-off of Municipal Election season, the first day that people can file their nomination papers. Historically, women played a pretty big role in the brewing of beer. Starting in ancient times, brewing was fairly female-dominated, but that changed in western culture around the same time the brewing process became industrialized 150 years ago. In 2022, women are trying to reclaim their place atop the brewing world thanks to the proliferation of craft breweries, and one local woman is helping to lead the way. It feels like it’s been a while since we’ve had a nice, friendly town hall with a pair of the ward councillors. The pandemic continues to affect life here in Guelph and around Ontario (not to mention Canada and the rest of the planet), but it is affecting us a little less today. The latest outbreak at Guelph General Hospital has been officially called off, but across town at the campus of the University of Guelph, the continued spread of COVID-19 has forced the school’s administration to halt a planned end to certain mandates.
