In the fourth local debate of this election, five of the seven Guelph candidates faced off to discuss matters of economic equality, environmental protection, and the improvement of healthcare and education. Hosted by the Guelph Coalition for Social Justice, and its member groups and agencies, it was a blockbuster 120 minutes of ideas and discussion, but don’t call it a debate. The Wellington-Dufferin-Guelph Board of Health met on Wednesday in a hybrid format. For the first time in over two years most board members and staff got together in the same room at Public Health’s Chancellors Way headquarters while others tuned in via Zoom, so one might be forgiven for assuming that the pandemic is almost over. This is the conundrum for young people across Guelph who like to have a bike, but find that getting one is a luxury. Well, one school board trustee thinks a kids’ bike is not a luxury, and he’s started a new program to refurbish previously enjoyed bikes for new adventures with new cyclists.
