Been to an eye doctor lately? If you’re eye care is covered by OHIP then probably not. For over a month now, the young and the old, whose eye heath is covered by government health insurance, have been stuck between that government and eye doctors, as Ontario’s optometrists demand a new deal to get their services completely covered by Queen’s Park. Moore Says Thanksgiving, Halloween Can Proceed Like Semi-Normal

This time last year, the province had started to climb the slope of what ended up being the second wave of the COVID-19 pandemic. One year later, with much of the province being vaccinated, the advice is starkly different. Schreiner Pushes Legislature to Act on Climate and Housing Emergencies

When the Speech from the Throne was delivered in the Ontario Legislature on Monday, Guelph MPP Mike Schreiner called it an “uninspiring throne speech that sets no vision or path forward for Ontario.” While it dealt with the ongoing pandemic, Schreiner noted that there was no mention of either climate change or housing affordability, so it’s forced the Green Party leader to do what the Ontario government won’t, make these issues a priority. LIVE BLOG: City Council Meeting for October 6, 2021

For the third time in two weeks, Guelph City Council had to deal with matters pertaining to 797 Victoria Street North. On the docket, council had to decide if what they voted for at *last week’s* emergency meeting was really what they voted for and set off a complex and often confusing chain of discussion about procedure and the validity of the meeting’s minutes. In 2020, Guelph Police Saw Decrease in Property Crime, Increase in Other Areas

Since most people spent a significant portion of the last year in lockdown due to the COVID-19 pandemic, there was some curiosity about what the crime rate would look like. According to the annual report from the Guelph Police Service, there was a decrease in several different crimes year-over-year in 2020, advancing the trend of a falling local crime rate even though Guelph does see an increase some different areas. Ontario Opposition Parties Have “To Do” Ahead of Throne Speech

The next session of the Ontario Legislature begins promptly at 9 am on Monday morning with the Speech from the Throne. The Honourable Elizabeth Dowdeswell, the Lieutenant Governor of Ontario, will read a missive outlining the Government of Ontario’s priorities for the rest of their mandate, but the opposition leaders have some priorities of the their own, and they recently shared them with the media.
