ONgov Offers Nurses $5,000 to Stick Around, Many Unimpressed

Nurses. We say they’re our heroes, but is that how we treat them? Through the course of the pandemic, many politicians, activists, and nursing representatives have said we don’t treat them like heroes, and that responsibility has been thrown at the feet of the Ontario government. Elliott: Rapid Tests Coming Soon to a Grocery Store Near You

Starting Wednesday, getting a rapid test in Ontario will be (theoretically) as easy as visiting your local grocery store or pharmacy. At a Kitchener Walmart this morning, Health Minister Christine Elliott announced that the Province will be making five million free rapid tests available each week for the next eight weeks at over 2,300 participating outlets including 30 right here in Guelph. Moore COVID Update Postponed as COVID Cases Go Higher

It made sense given the recent trend of new COVID-19 cases, not to mention the fact that there aren’t any rapid tests to be had and we’re now less than a week away from schools re-opening, but Ontario’s Chief Medical Officer of Health was supposed to give a press conference today. Despite the growing cases, and the growing questions, the presser was delayed as Ontarians waits at least another day for pandemic insights. Government of Ontario Expanding Flu Shot Availability in November

In case you had forgotten, flu season is here. Let’s just say that if you’re only planning on getting one shot this fall, and you aren’t already fully vaccinated against COVID-19, make it a Pfizer or Moderna shot. However, if you are worried about catching the good, old fashioned flu, then you should probably get a flu shot, which is a chore that’s going to get easier in the next couple of weeks. Schreiner Demands Action on Government Impasse with Optometrists

Been to an eye doctor lately? If you’re eye care is covered by OHIP then probably not. For over a month now, the young and the old, whose eye heath is covered by government health insurance, have been stuck between that government and eye doctors, as Ontario’s optometrists demand a new deal to get their services completely covered by Queen’s Park. Ontario Locking Down on Boxing Day, City of Guelph Responding with New Measures

After weeks of speculation, the Government of Ontario formally announced on Monday that the province will be going back into lockdown on Boxing Day this Saturday. The province-wide increase in the number of new COVID-19 cases has prompted the Provincial government to give the gift of staying at home the day after Christmas even as new areas in the GTA entered grey-level lockdowns on Monday. First Confirmed Case of COVID-19 in Wellington County Found

Wellington County has had its first confirmed case of COVID-19, but the novel coronavirus has not yet touched the City of Guelph. The announcement came Sunday afternoon that one of the news cases of COVID-19 was diagnosed close to home, and the 66-year-old man who was diagnosed with it, and is now recovering at Louise Marshall Hospital in Mount Forest, has no history of travel, or contact with a known case. Elliott Announces Funding Guelph and Area Health Team, One of the First

Health Minister Christine Elliott was in Guelph Friday afternoon to announce funding for the Guelph and Area Ontario Health Team, one of 24 teams in the province to be the first to get funding from the Government of Ontario. Both Elliott and the local team were adamant that this is a big step in securing better health services for Guelph and surrounding communities in Rockwood, Erin, and Puslinch.
