The media release from the Government of Ontario was succinct and to the point. “Premier Doug Ford today confirmed that the Honourable Elizabeth Dowdeswell, Lieutenant Governor of Ontario, has accepted the premier’s advice to sign a proclamation dissolving the 42nd Parliament of the Province of Ontario.” Ontario’s general election officially began at 4 pm and started a month-long countdown to Election Day. Another COVID-19 Outbreak at Guelph General Hospital

It’s lucky number seven at Guelph General Hospital with the announcement today that there’s another COVID-19 outbreak at that facility. Since just before Christmas 2021, it’s seemed like there’s been a new COVID outbreak every couple of weeks, the last one was on April 5 and cancelled about 10 days later, but this outbreak comes at a moment as many outbreaks in area healthcare facilities have come to an end. Ontario Government Approves $15 Million for Hospital ER Expansion

There’s an election coming. The writs must be drawn up in the next 48 hours, but in that time it looks like there’s going to be a lot of announcements from all parties about wonderful new spending initiatives. HOPE House Celebrates the End of a Successful Capital Campaign

An in-person ceremony commemorated the completion of the capital campaign to buy and renovate the old Norfolk United Church, which you may know as the headquarters for HOPE House. Part of that ceremony was the official rename of the church as the David Barr Memorial Building, a rechristening of sorts that marked both the beginning of a new era at HOPE House and the continuation of their efforts to help Guelph’s most vulnerable. Supporters March for Guelph Couple Still Locked in SLAPP Suit

The site of rainbow flags and the sounds of Top 40 music flowed through the downtown on Saturday afternoon as over 30 people marched in support of a Guelph couple sued in a Twitter spat with Guelph Medical Imaging. Organized by a pair of United Church ministers, the message from the participants – young and old, straight and queer, cis gendered or non-binary – was that there’s no place for homophobia in Guelph.
