A recent media report about animals in distress due to poor water quality at one of Niagara Falls’ star attractions has put renewed pressure on Marineland. For the last several years, numerous environmental and animal rights advocates and groups have been demanding the park’s closure, and they now have a powerful political voice in their corner, the leader of the Ontario Green Party. Even before the pandemic, services for area youth, especially mental health services, have been sorely lacking. A giant leap forward was initiated on Thursday with the ground-breaking for the new Centre for Children’s Mental Health and Developmental Services Building. When it opens in less than two years, it will be a hub over 30 service providers and be a magnet for over 9,000 local children, youths and their families. In nearly seven months, the local COVID-19 vaccination effort has gone from a desperate quest to get more doses to the appearance that this widespread vaccination effort is nearing completion. On Thursday, Wellington-Dufferin-Guelph Public Health announced that they will start winding down their mass vaccination clinics next month, and if you’re planning on staying in a dorm this school year, you better get to one fast! An odyssey now nearly five years long, the file on a proposed residential building for seniors took a step closer to being closed during a case management conference at the Ontario Land Tribunal (OLT) this morning. A settlement between the City of Guelph and the developer, Rykur Holdings, will end one part of the appeal, and now all parties will see if they can resolve the other part.
