Pressure Increases on Provincial Government to Act on Healthcare Issues

After white-knuckling through a long weekend where at least 14 Ontario hospitals experienced closures or capacity issues, all eyes have turned to the Provincial government as demands get louder for immediate action. Even after a series of media interviews by the new health minister, plus a rare mid-summer appearance of the premier at an event this morning, there’s still no sign that the government is getting in a crisis mode. Ontario Opens Up Second Boosters to Everyone Over 18. Tomorrow.

It’s been a while since we heard from Ontario’s Chief Medical Officer of Health, but Dr. Kieran Moore emerged in front of the press again on Wednesday, and in the midst of a summer COVID wave he invited everyone in the province over the age of 18 to get their second booster. As of Thursday July 18 at 8 am, every adult in Ontario can get a booster if its been five months since their last shot. Ford Unveils New, Mostly Old, Cabinet

Under appropriately bright blue skies, the new cabinet for the newly re-election Ontario government under Doug Ford was sworn in outside Queen’s Park on Friday. The new 30-member cabinet does contain a few newly elected faces, but it’s mostly made up of tried and true politicians who are returning to the roles and the parts they played at the end of the last session. Most Mask Mandates End on Saturday, But Not at Guelph General Hospital

Mask mandates come to a predictable and unceremonious end this Saturday with only a couple of exceptions. Just a few days after the election, and announced with a simple media release on Wednesday, the Chief Medical Officer of Health says that outside long-term care and retirement homes, masks in Ontario will be optional as of June 11, but at least one Guelph institution says that the masks will stay on for now. New Blue’s Lomker Believes that Voters Want a Real Alternative This Election

The debate had been over for 20 minutes, the venue had been transformed back into a cafeteria and the students were trickling in to eat their lunches. All the other candidates had left for their next campaign stop, but not Will Lomker. Guelph’s New Blue candidate remained on stage, answering questions from College Heights students who were among the lucky ones able to hear from this politician in his first and only debate appearance. RECAP: #ONelxn Candidates Face Off in Virtual Discussion on Social Justice
