With early voting set to begin at the end of the week, Monday began appropriately with a mayoral debate. The venue was the Italian Canadian Club, the host was the Guelph and District Association of Realtors, and the topic was the only topic: housing. The ground has been broken on another new supportive housing development in Guelph. Approved last summer by council, the Shelldale Cres. project sponsored by Kindle Communities and SkyDev, a subsidiary of Skyline developers, has begun construction after a well-attended ground breaking on Wednesday that also delivered tremendous funding for the project from a variety of sources. You may be unaware that September 25 is Franco-Ontario Day, an occasion to honour the history and community around French-speaking Ontarians. Since this year’s Frano-Ontario Day falls on Sunday, there was an early commemoration on Friday at Guelph City Hall. Her coronation was one of the first mass-broadcast events after TV started to become something more and more people owned, and at the end of her reign, Queen Elizabeth II was doing stuff on Zoom like the rest of us. She also had a YouTube page. All of this is to say that there was a lot of change in the 70 years that Elizabeth Alexandra Mary Windsor sat on the throne of the United Kingdom.
