If you work at City Hall, any City facility, the Guelph Public Library, and the University of Guelph, then you will be required to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19, so it would make sense for workers at area hospitals to be fully vaccinated. A joint statement today from Guelph General Hospital another other institutions confirms a coming vaccine mandate, while Wellington-Dufferin-Guelph Public Health is asking all businesses to plan along similar lines. After weeks of pressure, and weeks without a formal press conference, Premier Doug Ford and Minister of Health Christine Elliot joined Chief Medical Officer of Health Dr, Kieran Moore to announce a great idea they had: A vaccine certification program. Jim Estill has been a successful entrepreneur, innovator and investor building a number of successful businesses around Guelph, but the thing that made Estill a national figure had nothing to do with business. Through Estill’s generosity, hundreds of Syrian refugees have made a new home in Canada, and now he wants to do it again for 50 families fleeing the resurgent Tabliban in Afghanistan. On Tuesday, many communities around the world marked International Overdose Awareness Day, a chance to campaign to end drug overdoses, and remember without stigma the people who have died as well as the family they all left behind. In Guelph, a few hundred people gathered in St. George’s Square at lunch hour to remember another pandemic that has only gotten worse since COVID-19 hit our shores last year. Earlier this year, the Communist Party of Canada celebrated its 100th anniversary as a political entity in Canada. The party organized in a barn on Metcalfe Street in 2021, which was, at the time, on the outskirts of Guelph, so in this centenary year it was pretty important that the Communists have a candidate in this Federal Election.
