Grocery stores have been called essential services by the Provincial government, which is why the workers there are vulnerable to catching COVID-19. It’s happened before, and now it’s happened in Guelph, specifically at the Clair Road location of Longo’s. In what’s been a bad week in Guelph with COVID-19 developments, comes the late breaking news on Thursday evening that an outbreak of the virus has occurred in an entire ward of Guelph General Hospital. A joint statement from the Hospital and Wellington-Dufferin-Guelph Public Health says that all immediate measures are being taken to protect staff and patients. Guelph Transit will keep rolling through the extended COVID-19 response period, but the transit service has just announced that they’re making social distancing easier on all their vehicles. Starting today, less than a dozen people at any one time will be allowed on Guelph Transit buses as part of new, stricter measures to keep people moving while not letting COVID-19 spread.
