RECAP: All the Candidates Finally Face Off in Bishop Mac Debate
On this 31st day of the 2021 Federal Election campaign, the seven candidates running to represent Guelph finally met face-to-face (on Microsoft Teams). In a debate for students in both the Wellington Catholic District School Board and the Upper Grand District School Board, and organized by the students of Bishop Macdonell High School, Guelph’s young people sought answers to questions on the issues that are affecting them now and in the future. Attendance at Advanced Polls Up Says Elections Canada
The big question in this campaign, aside from all the issue-based questions, is how many people are going to come out to the polls in the middle of the pandemic’s fourth wave. Well, they certainly showed up for the advanced polls if a first glance at numbers from Elections Canada are to be believed as the early voting period in this election has seemed to yield a 20 per cent increase in turnout over 2019. One Week Before Policy Starts, Ontario Government Announces Guidelines for Vax Certificates
This time next week will be the last day you can go inside many places without being asked for proof of vaccination. The Government of Ontario’s vaccine certification effort goes into effect a week from Wednesday, and, just in time, we now have the regulations and guidance that will guide the program. The ball is now in the court of local businesses and organizations, not to mention all of us, to make it work. Bowman Says This is Last Chance Election for the Planet on Open Sources
In Guelph’s riding this election, there are a lot of experienced politicians running. In fact, Green Party of Canada candidate Dr. Michelle Bowman is one of only two candidates running in Guelph who have never been a candidate before, but the environmental scientist doesn’t see that as a bad thing. Jahangir Tells Open Sources She Senses Opportunity for the NDP
Guelph NDP candidate Aisha Jahangir has a day job as a mental health nurse at the Hamilton-Wentworth detention facility. People’s Party Candidates Rally for Support and Get Attention from Bylaw
It was cloudy day, rain was a constant threat and the humidity made things muggy. Grey clouds and the consistent annoyance of bugs though were no match for the enthusiasm of the dozens of people who gathered to hear from the two area People’s Party of Canada candidates, Josh Leier for Guelph and Syl Carle for Wellington-Halton Hills. Vast Majority of Guelph Voters Think Climate’s the Big Issue This Election
There are a lot of issues taking up the national discussion this election including the COVID-19 pandemic, housing affordability, and the ongoing struggle for Truth and Reconciliation with Indigenous communities. Guelphites probably have some concerns about those issues too, but apparently, the vast majority of us are the most concerned about one thing above all others: climate change.
