Condemnation and Regret After a Weekend of Madness in the Capital

Politicians and the public are still trying to make heads or tails of a weekend of protest and chaos in the nation’s capital. From the Prime Minister of Canada to the MPP for Guelph, there was widespread condemnation of the actions of the so-called “Freedom Convoy”, whether it’s the flaunting of public health rules, the use of hate symbols, the desecration of national monuments, and the generous misuse of support for homeless people. Schreiner Says Small Businesses Still Need Help as Provincial Re-opening Begins

Ontario businesses locked down for the last three-and-a-half weeks were finally allowed to re-open up to 50 per cent capacity on Monday, so problem solved, right? Not so fast, says Guelph MPP Mike Schreiner. Joined by Dufferin-Caledon Green Party candidate Laura Campbell, who owns a restaurant in downtown Orangeville, Schreiner said that there’s still a role for government to play as businesses try and get back on their feet. One Outbreak Down, One to Go at Guelph General

This time last week news broke that there was another COVID-19 outbreak at Guelph General Hospital, it was the first one of 2022, but it was not, as it turned out, the last. Earlier this week, the Hospital announced that they had a second, separate outbreak on a different floor, but on this Friday there’s at least some good news in that the Hospital is back to having just one outbreak. U of G Execs Confident They’re Ready for Monday Re-Opening

The University of Guelph re-opens for in-person learning on Monday, and members of the executive team held a town hall on Thursday to send students, parents, staff and faculty a unified message: They were ready for the return, and all measures are being taken to make sure everything will be as safe as possible. In fact, it was phrased as something of an imperative that students return to campus on Monday. Continue reading “U of G Execs Confident They’re Ready for Monday Re-Opening”

Schreiner Joins Halton Councillors to Call for an End to Sprawl

There’s been a lot of discussion in the last few weeks about getting more housing developed across Ontario to deal with the rapid increase of housing prices. The fight to get more housing has also created a reciprocal concern about creating more sprawl, which is something that the environmentally-minded population doesn’t want to see. Guelph MPP Mike Schreiner doesn’t want to see it either, and he’s recruiting help from Halton Region. Continue reading “Schreiner Joins Halton Councillors to Call for an End to Sprawl”

GUELPH POLITICAST #308 – Une maison de la francophonie à Guelph

Think about this for a second: Where can you go in Guelph if you want to use your French language skills? Seriously. This is a bilingual country, and unless you have friends or family that speak French or live in an area with a lot of French speakers, where do you go, and who do you talk to, if you want to speak French? That maybe about to change. Continue reading “GUELPH POLITICAST #308 – Une maison de la francophonie à Guelph”
