The scuttlebutt is that Health Canada will be approving the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine for kids between the ages of 5 and 11 on Friday. According to Wellington-Dufferin-Guelph’s Medical Officer of Health on Thursday, public health is ready to roll out vaccines for children once the word is given, and they’re anticipating that the first doses of vaccine will be handed out at the end of next week. Buried once by a proposal for a 21-storey tower downtown, and then buried again by the sudden onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, a proposed development for 361 Whitelaw Road is back on the front page, and the Ontario Land Tribunal has said it can go ahead. Nearly two years after council had put the kibosh on the proposed zoning bylaw amendment, the OLT has raised the planning dead for nearly 700 new units in the west end. Premier Doug Ford was in Guelph on Wednesday morning to do something that was once considered anathema to his brand, support for the development of electric vehicles. At a Linamar facility in town, Ford and Minister of Economic Development, Job Creation and Trade Vic Fedeli announced the second phases of their auto strategy to support domestic production of EVs and EV parts. On the last day of the COP26 climate conference in Glasgow, international delegates tried to reach a deal to further the cause of stopping a two degree increase to the global temperature that will lead to a climate catastrophe.
