After creating a sensation on social media when it arrived at Guelph Transit HQ on Friday, the City of Guelph’s first electric bus pulled in front of City Hall so that members of city council and members of City senior staff could take a closer look. The shift to electric vehicles is the greatest change to the automobile market since the invention of the windshield wiper. The Green Party of Ontario is making it a matter of policy to encourage you to trade in your gas-powered car for an EV and on Friday leader Mike Schreiner and deputy leader Dianne Saxe held a virtual press conference to tell Ontarians that they should have an easier time getting into an EV. Ontario Government Moves to Install EV Chargers Along Highways
In King City today, the Ontario Energy Minister announced the installation of fast EV chargers along the province’s busiest highways at Onroute locations. Wednesday’s news is the latest instance where the Government of Ontario has embraced the EV movement, and comes less a month after Premier Doug Ford announced in Guelph new support for building a home-grown EV supply chain. Ford Supports EVs in Guelph, Schreiner Not Impressed Though
Premier Doug Ford was in Guelph on Wednesday morning to do something that was once considered anathema to his brand, support for the development of electric vehicles. At a Linamar facility in town, Ford and Minister of Economic Development, Job Creation and Trade Vic Fedeli announced the second phases of their auto strategy to support domestic production of EVs and EV parts. Horwath Comes to Guelph in Campaign-Style Announcement
In a campaign-style announcement on Thursday morning, Official Opposition leader Andrea Horwath landed in Guelph with a couple of her NDP colleagues to talk about her party’s plan to promote the use of electric vehicles. The setting, next to some EV charging stations, was not subtle, and neither was the political message. University of Guelph Gets Federal Money for Environmental Upgrades
This long weekend, the University of Guelph will be giving thanks to the Federal government and MP Lloyd Longfield for about three quarters of a million dollars in new funding to upgrade campus’ environmental sustainability. Federal Funding Will Help Deliver 20 More EV Charging Stations in Guelph
With the local economy re-opening from pandemic lockdown, more people are going to be going more places. For people with an electric vehicle (EV) going out can be tough if you’re not sure if there’s a charging station nearby if you need one, which is one reason why the Federal government is contributing $100,000 for a total of $320,000 in combined funding with the City for 20 new charging stations in Guelph.
