Staff Says New Transit Initiatives Are a Success

Last year during the 2022-23 budget process, council approved two new projects to increase transit use. One of the new programs was a multi-tiered affordable bus pass, and the other was a pilot that let kids 12 and under ride transit for free. In two progress reports to council released Friday, City of Guelph staff are enthusiastic about the results of the program and are considering them to so far be a success. ON Gov Achieves New Deal with Another Group of Education Workers

Christmas came early for the Ministry of Education as they’ve achieved another deal with a group of education workers. The rare Sunday news comes from the Ontario Council of Educational Workers (OCEW), a collection of unions representing thousands of education workers in schools around the province, who have now reached a tentative agreement with the Ontario government after a days-long stretch of bargaining. This Week at Council: Workshops, Assignments and Planning

Council got back to it’s regularly scheduled workload for this December with four meetings in two days. The councillors filled their minds with the ins and outs of planning and budgeting, and then put some that knowledge to the test with the first official planning meeting of the term. Guelph Gets More Safe Restart Funding for Transit

Christmas came early for Ontario municipalities who are still struggling with reduced revenue for their transit systems. At an announcement in Brampton today, Premier Doug Ford and Transportation Minister Caroline Mulroney announced phase 4 of Safe Restart Funding specifically geared to public transportation systems in 107 Ontario municipalities for this fiscal year.
