It was the last city council meeting… before summer break! There will be a couple of more meetings in September before the October 26 election, but will there be anything as controversial as the unscheduled return of the Public Space Use Bylaw? That one was put on the revised agenda, along with a matter of development changes being applied to a non-profit’s renovation project. We’ll get that, and the update about the City’s Strategic Plan in this last recap of the summer! Continue reading “This Week at Council: Public Space Changes and the “Future” Reviewed”

This Week at Council: Big Nights for Big Projects
It was a packed night, or make that a couple of nights, at Guelph City Council. Two nights, two big planning projects, one in the south end and one in the east end. Both have been hotly anticipated (dreaded?), at least one for many, many years, and while one is still at least theoretical, the other is now moving on to the next phase of development. For all the details, let’s get right into this week’s recap of council business… Continue reading “This Week at Council: Big Nights for Big Projects”

This Week at Council: Back to Business, and a Rerun
After a real August recess this year, city council – now whole again – returned to the council chambers for more hijinks starting with something we thought we had already done in July. After an impromptu planning meeting, council took part in the Committee of the Whole meeting where they covered I.T., WHMIS, and stuff that does have initials like the growing scourge of graffiti. Get all the details in this week’s recap! Continue reading “This Week at Council: Back to Business, and a Rerun”
RECAP: City Council Meeting for September 3, 2025
Before yesterday’s Committee of the Whole, we had a city council rerun. Sort of. Addressing a procedural snafu concerning a planning project that came to council back in July, we had to go through it all over again. Was there the same result? You can click here for the amended agenda from City Hall, and you can click here for the Politico preview, and for the full recap of the meeting, check out the thread below…

City Council Preview – What’s on the Agenda for the September 10, 2025 Meeting?
Let’s call it a planning week. A day following the regularly scheduled planning meeting for this month, we will get an additional planning meeting. A special meeting for a special project, if you will. Remember the Guelph Innovation District Secondary Plan? Well, it’s going to get a workout as the first block plans finally come to council for approval, and in a surprising twist, staff are not offering a ringing endorsement. Let’s get into it… Continue reading “City Council Preview – What’s on the Agenda for the September 10, 2025 Meeting?”
City Council Preview – What’s on the Agenda for the September 3, 2025 Meeting?
Time to get back to work! For the first time in a couple of years, we actually had a whole month off in August, but now the time has come to return to the council chambers and see what trouble we can get into. So to speak. First up, a blast from the not-too-distant past, a planning project that came to council in July and was approved by council, but there was an unexpected procedural issue that must now be resolved. Details below. Continue reading “City Council Preview – What’s on the Agenda for the September 3, 2025 Meeting?”
This Week at Council: The People Have Budget Thoughts Too
This week was budget delegation night, and while that’s always a busy occasion, this one was even busier. Blame the Strong Mayor Powered budget and some of the things cut or delayed, which got a great many community members very concerned about potentially lost opportunities, but before all that stuff, some unfinished business! A very special meeting of council was convened to take care of some labour matters. Here’s the recap! Continue reading “This Week at Council: The People Have Budget Thoughts Too”
