Council got back to it’s regularly scheduled workload for this December with four meetings in two days. The councillors filled their minds with the ins and outs of planning and budgeting, and then put some that knowledge to the test with the first official planning meeting of the term. Or should we say “meetings.” So before that first planning meeting, council’s going to learn the bits and pieces of planning policy, and then they’re going to fill up the ranks of Guelph’s very important public boards and committees for the new term. In the second half of June, much of the business of city council focused on itself. There were back-to-back meetings about the new ward maps and council composition, and then, at the end of the month, it was a triple header with shareholder meetings for Guelph holding corporations and a complex series of actions at the regular council meeting. The final city council meeting of the month will cover the usual ground of ratifying items from the Committee of the Whole meeting, so that might mean re-visiting the Trails Master Plan one more time or something else. In terms of new stuff, we’ve got fresh public appointments, an opportunity to expand voting access, and the first update about achieving the goals of the Strategic Plan.
