Guthrie Says COVID State of Emergency Could Be Over By New Year’s

In perhaps the most powerful local sign yet that this pandemic is near it’s end, the leaders of both the City of Guelph and the County of Wellington announced Wednesday that the local states of emergency could be ended by the last day of 2021. Both Mayor Cam Guthrie and Warden Kelly Linton released similar sounding statements today saying that, with the advice of public health, the nearly two-year-old state of emergency may be *almost* over. This Month at Council PART 2: Workshops, Development Charges, and More Drama

For a time, the second half of the month at council was more dry and wonkish with special meetings and workshops about dry subject matter like Development Charges and the multi-year budget. City Council Preview – What’s on the Agenda for the October 25 Meeting?

One last meeting before the end of the month as council will be asked to approve the slate of decisions already made at Committee of the Whole, and there will be at least two other matters that require council’s attention. Local Leaders Share Thoughts on National Day for Truth and Reconciliation

Today is the first ever National Day of Reconciliation, and there were a number of activities around Guelph to mark the day. Many local politicians have also marked the day by making special statements,  wearing orange shirts, and speaking to the need to address long-standing Indigenous issues that come from centuries of systemic racism and genocide. Wellington County Quickly Moves Dolime Annex to Next Phase

The annexation of the Dolime Quarry property, and is potential future as a residential neighbourhood in Guelph, took a couple of steps forward this week after two public meetings. From the council in Guelph/Eramosa Township to the council at Wellington County, the annexation has moved closer to being a done deal, and, it seems, without much public opposition. Wellington County Denounces “Disturbing” TikTok Video

The cold-blooded attack on a Muslim family in London, Ontario has released an outpouring of love and support for Muslim friends and neighbours across the province, but it has also released a new wave of hate that’s not dissimilar to what caused the Afzaal and Salman family to be targeted in the first plan. City Moves to Absorb Quarry Site, and Ask for MZO to Do It

It’s not going to be a lazy summer at Guelph City Council as the next several weeks they, along with the Township of Guelph/Eramosa and the County of Wellington, will determine the fate of an issue that ties all three governments together. Guelph is ready to absorb the site of the Dolime Quarry and make it a part of the city proper, but there’s an obstacle course of meetings they have to run through to make it happen.
