Fed Gov’t Hires Consultants to Review Rail in Southwestern Ontario

Wouldn’t it be nice to travel from Toronto to Québec City on frequent and reliable high speed rail? Well the Federal government thinks so to. Borrowing from $396.8 million over two years set aside in the 2022 Federal budget for Transport Canada and Infrastructure Canada, the Ministry of Transportation has engaged two consultants to look at transforming passenger rail in the country’s busiest corridor. This Month at Council PART 2: Workshops, Development Charges, and More Drama

For a time, the second half of the month at council was more dry and wonkish with special meetings and workshops about dry subject matter like Development Charges and the multi-year budget. City Council Preview – What’s on the Agenda for the October 25 Meeting?

One last meeting before the end of the month as council will be asked to approve the slate of decisions already made at Committee of the Whole, and there will be at least two other matters that require council’s attention. First, some small changes to a prominent Guelph board of directors, and second, council will be asked to approve some money for the development of affordable housing. Guelph Gets Boost in Gas Tax Funds; Needs Help With Transport Master Plan

Transit is an area of municipal services that’s been hit especially hard by the pandemic. Revenue has cratered because ridership is way down, so now would be the perfect time for the City of Guelph and other municipalities to hear that they’re getting more money to cover the cost. In an announcement today, Guelph received nearly $100,000 more in Gas Tax money from the Government of Ontario, and there’s more transportation news to consider. Ontario’s Southwestern Transportation Plan Leaves Guelph Projects Uncertain

The Government of Ontario unveiled its first draft of a Regional Transportation Plan for Southwestern Ontario on Friday in London. The plan is meant to “build a better transportation system that will connect individuals, families and businesses in southwestern Ontario,” but when the plan might come to fruition is a question without too many answers.
