School Board Trustee Wants to Get Kids in Need a Free Bike

Good biking weather is finally here, but what if you don’t own a bike? What if your family doesn’t have the money to afford a new bike? This is the conundrum for young people across Guelph who like to have a bike, but find that getting one is a luxury. Well, one school board trustee thinks a kids’ bike is not a luxury, and he’s started a new program to refurbish previously enjoyed bikes for new adventures with new cyclists. Mask Mandates: City Changes Rule and School Board Has No Power to Contest

As you may have heard, mask mandates in Ontario are coming to end on March 21 in almost all settings, and that includes City of Guelph facilities. City Hall confirmed as much today, and so did the Upper Grand District School Board who confirmed that masks will become optional in their schools after March Break, and that they have no power to change that even if parents want them to. Cold Weather and Hot Tempers at School Board Mandate Protest

The snow was falling, and a bitter wind was blowing, but things actually did get heated at a protest outside the main office of the Upper Grand District School Board on Victoria Road Friday. Over 20 people, some with their kids, gathered to call for an end to mask mandates in schools, while at least one person stood her ground about the ongoing necessity of public health restrictions. Words of Encouragement From Medical Officer of Health Before Monday

School Board Adjusts to the New Face of the Pandemic

Public Health Says Everyone That Can Work From Home, Now Needs to Work From Home

Just a day after the Government of Ontario announced that they’re putting a rush on boosters and capping attendance at large venues, Wellington-Dufferin-Guelph Public Health announced that they were going further with new COVID precautions. UGDSB’s Long-Serving Director of Education Passes Away Months After Retiring

Just a few months after she stepped down as the long-serving Director of Education at the Upper Grand District School Board, news broke on Monday that Martha Rogers had passed away. Rogers had a career that spanned nearly 50 years, starting as a teacher in Peel region in 1972, and finishing her career with an impressive quarter-century hitch in the highest administrative position in local separate school board. Teen Arrested for Threatening a School Shooting (UPDATED)

The idea of school shootings are all too common place in modern times, even if they’re just a threat, but the threat of a school shooting here in Guelph? That’s enough just as an idea to create real concern. This was the case on Tuesday morning with the news from Guelph Police Service that they’ve taken a teen into custody in connection to a threatening message written on the wall of a bathroom at a Guelph school.
