Guelph made history in 2018 by sending Mike Schreiner to Queen’s Park, the first elected Green Party Member of Provincial Parliament. While the cynical talked about Schreiner as a “caucus of one”, political observers have come to view him as a political free agent, able to collaborate past party lines *and* act as a provocative voice of dissension. On the same day that both Mike Schreiner and Andrea Horwath announced that COVID-19 had temporarily knocked them out of in-person campaigning, Guelph hosted its first visit from a provincial party leader that’s not based in this riding. Riding high after a strong showing at the leaders’ debate on Monday night, Guelph MPP and Green Party leader Mike Schreiner received a key endorsement on Wednesday from the Ontario Secondary School Teachers’ Federation (OSSTF). The provincial OSSTF also endorsed Parry Sound-Muskoka Green candidate Matt Richter, who Schreiner has been boosting the last few days as the best chance to double his caucus at Queen’s Park.
