Schreiner Spends Last Weekend of Campaign in… Parry Sound-Muskoka?!

In what’s probably an indication about the odds here in Guelph, and maybe the odds up in Parry Sound-Muskoka, Guelph’s incumbent Green candidate and leader of Ontario’s Green Party,  spent the last Saturday before Election Day supporting another candidate in another riding. Schreiner’s visit to the eastern end of Georgian Bay sets up the Green Party’s best bet to double the size of their caucus this Thursday. RECAP: College Heights Students Had Probing Questions For Candidates

It might be the last debate of the campaign, but it was going to be a good one because the questions came from a long line of eager College Heights Secondary School students that attended Thursday morning’s match up in their own school’s cafeteria. Four of the more left-wing candidates, and, for once, a representative from the right flank talked about the issues that matter to Guelph’s young people. See video and live tweets below. Schreiner Tells Open Sources That His Work at Queen’s Park Has Just Begun

Guelph made history in 2018 by sending Mike Schreiner to Queen’s Park, the first elected Green Party Member of Provincial Parliament. While the cynical talked about Schreiner as a “caucus of one”, political observers have come to view him as a political free agent, able to collaborate past party lines *and* act as a provocative voice of dissension. In 2022, Schreiner is asking Guelph to send him back, now with full knowledge of his capabilities. Continue reading “Schreiner Tells Open Sources That His Work at Queen’s Park Has Just Begun”

Parr Tells Open Sources That Youth is Experience on Election Issues

“The nitty gritty of it is, I’m a renter, I’m an employee, and it wasn’t too long ago that I was living in my parent’s basement earning very close to minimum wage.” If you’ve been to a local debate or campaign event, you’ve probably heard NDP candidate James Parr say some variation of that line, which not only sums up his own gestalt but also is a neat encapsulation of the issues facing many millions of young people. RECAP: Candidates Trade Vaguely Complimentary Agendas at Chamber Debate

Once again, it was left to centre-left only at a local provincial election debate, which was especially surprising given that Wednesday it was the Guelph Chamber of Commerce’s turn to ask the questions. Three of the four main party candidates covered a wide spectrum of issues from healthcare to transportation to affordability and economic opportunity. Submitted for your approval, the recap of the most recent Guelph candidates debate. Continue reading “RECAP: Candidates Trade Vaguely Complimentary Agendas at Chamber Debate”

Its probably not an easy gig to run in the home riding of the current Premier of Ontario, but this essential task has fallen to a familiar face from Guelph politics. The Communist Party candidate believes sixth time’s the charm, and that people are looking for real left-wing change as an antidote to four years living under Doug Ford.
