For opponents still hoping to use the courts to undermine the Federal carbon tax, it was more bad news as the Ontario Court of Appeal joined its Saskatchewan colleagues in recognizing the constitutionality of the Greenhouse Gas Pollution Pricing Act (GGPPA). It seems that the Ontario Budget announced in April is the gift that keeps on giving, even though you wish you could return it. One of the world’s leading credit agencies is warning that the cuts to funding and other proposed actions in the budget could result in a rate cut to Ontario’s municipalities, as cities across the province are forced to deal with $2 billion loss in revenue over the next 10 years. Aisha Jahangir has emerged as the New Democratic candidate for the riding of Guelph in this fall’s Federal Election. In all, 75 members of the local electoral district association endorsed the nurse and labour leader over her competition, Andy McCann-Pappin, a long-time activist and NDP campaigner in Guelph.
