University of Guelph Pauses Mask Mandates as of July 1

The number of mandatory masking spaces in Guelph continues to grow smaller, and it will draw considerably smaller again on Canada Day when the University of Guelph ends all its masking mandates. Once delayed by the U of G administration, the masks will be able to finally come off while people are indoors on campus, but it comes with a caveat that masks might need to go back on sometime in the future. Ford Unveils New, Mostly Old, Cabinet

Under appropriately bright blue skies, the new cabinet for the newly re-election Ontario government under Doug Ford was sworn in outside Queen’s Park on Friday. The new 30-member cabinet does contain a few newly elected faces, but it’s mostly made up of tried and true politicians who are returning to the roles and the parts they played at the end of the last session. Committee of the Whole Preview – What’s on the Agenda for the July 4 Meeting?

In-Person National Indigenous Peoples Day is a Big Success at Riverside Park

Hundreds of people made their way to the bandshell area at Riverside Park to enjoy the first in-person celebration of First Nations, Inuit and Métis Peoples in Guelph in two years. Demonstrations of Indigenous dance and drumming were presented, craft-makers and artisans showed off their wares, and the settler community got a taste of a culture struggling to be embraced and preserved by the next generation. The Grove Official Opens U of G Hub Just in Time to Address Growing Need

Emblematic of the feeling that we’ve reached the end of the pandemic, it was a packed house outside the new location of The Grove Wellington Guelph Hub at the University of Guelph to celebrate its grand opening. In the midst of toasting this new Grove outpost though was the reminder of why it’s there in the first place, the growing, desperate need for mental health support for young people.
