It was a long one this week at city council with three meetings and several potential issues of controversy. One shareholder meeting went by with zero controversy, but the other one literally packed the gallery with concern about trails along the railways. City Council Preview – What’s on the Agenda for the June 23, 2026 Shareholder Meetings?

A June tradition, Guelph city council will sit as the shareholder for both Guelph Municipal Holdings Inc. and Guelph Junction Railway. These two business entities are like Crown corporations for Guelph, representing our shares of Alectra Utilities and several kilometres of train tracks in the city respectively. This Week at Council: Shareholders Hear that Rail Trail Needs to Be a Priority

June’s council business was concluded with a trifecta of meetings. Yes, there was the usual regular meeting and there was nothing really controversial about that business, so instead the friction fell at the Guelph Junction Railway shareholder meeting. This Week at Council: In the Heights, and Affordable Housing!

It was another three-pack of meetings at city council this week with two meetings where council sat as a shareholder of corporations owned by the City of Guelph, and then there was the monthly planning meeting.
