It’s a known fact that Mayor Cam Guthrie got his start in politics as one of the councillors for Ward 4, and on Thursday night he virtually returned to his stomping groups with current Ward 4 Councillors Mike Salisbury and Christiner Billings. A cast of thousands (sort of) also joined Guthrie, Salisbury and Billings to talk about the 2021 Budget and issues of policing in Guelph in the second in a series of pre-budget virtual town halls. RECAP: Ward 2 Warms Up a Week of Public Feedback on the Budget

It was not the biggest of virtual crowds on Wednesday night, but it likely provided a nice warm up for a whole week of public events and town halls about this year’s budget. RECAP: Upper Grand Board Seeks Feedback on Police in Schools

Technical issues and technical challenges marked the long-awaited town hall on police presence in schools hosted by the Upper Grand District School Board. Participants were asked to give their feedback on a couple of questions as a community task force races to an end-of-year deadline to decide if having a police resource officer in school, in this year of tremendous social change, is something still worth doing. RECAP: Longfield, Schreiner, and Guthrie Answer COVID Concerns

On Wednesday evening, Guelph’s Member of Parliament, Member of Provincial Parliament, and Mayor all got together by phone for a virtual town hall. Over the space of an hour, Lloyd Longfield, Mike Schreiner, and Cam Guthrie answered questions from the community about the local response to the pandemic, and the issues we will face on health, welfare, and the economy as we enter the winter months. RECAP: Ward 5 Town Hall Covers Police and Library Matters

For the second time in the COVID-era, a pair of Guelph City Councillors held a virtual town hall via Zoom. Ward 5 Councillors Leanne Caron and Cathy Downer organized a gathering of around 30 people Thursday night to cover matters of law and order with members of the Guelph Police Service, and matters of the Guelph Public Library with the CEO and Board members. Virtual Town Hall Goes Inside the Proposed Library

In what might be described as a delegation in advance of next week’s two meetings about the Baker District Development, some 500 people signed up to take part in a virtual open house on the proposed new main library. The presentation was the first chance that the public had to see what the library might look like in its proposed new home in its own separate building at the south end of the Baker District site. Guelph Library Holding a Virtual Town Hall on Baker Street Plans

Guelph has finally got a good look at the alternative plans for the new main library project, at least in a cursory way. The agenda for the council meeting on October 7 has been released, but a lot of work has been done on planing for the new main library beyond just figuring out how much it will cost. Next week, residents will get a chance to get an in-depth look at the inside of the project from two of the people behind it. Metrolinx Holding Virtual Open House on Electrified Train Route

The pandemic has had an impact on how many people are taking the GO Train, not to mention an impact on how many GO Trains are rolling down the tracks everyday, but that doesn’t mean Metrolinx isn’t looking to the future. A virtual town hall has begun online to get local feedback about the electrification of the Kitchener Line, the GO Train service that passes through Guelph connecting Kitchener with Union Station. RECAP: Cobey Promises Change in Ward 2 Town Hall on Policing

Before the start of the pandemic, there was a town hall scheduled by the Ward 2 City Councillors Rodrigo Goller and James Gordon to talk about safety and policing in Guelph with Police Chief Gord Cobey. COVID-19 cancelled that in-person meeting at the Evergreen Seniors’ Centre, but a couple of months later, the virtual version of that same town hall seemed even more well-timed as about 40 people wanted to talk about issues of racism.
