Local Leaders Share Thoughts on National Day for Truth and Reconciliation

Today is the first ever National Day of Reconciliation, and there were a number of activities around Guelph to mark the day. Many local politicians have also marked the day by making special statements,  wearing orange shirts, and speaking to the need to address long-standing Indigenous issues that come from centuries of systemic racism and genocide. Schreiner Wants Some Action on Ontario’s Nursing Shortage

On Monday, the Ontario Legislature will get back to work after an extended summer break thanks to the fact that Premier Doug Ford prorogued the session just as the Federal Election got underway. As Paul Resigns, Schreiner Gives Thanks for Her “Bold and Daring Leadership”

Less than a week after the conclusion of the 2021 Federal Election, Green Party of Canada leader Annamie Paul announced that she will not be leading her party into the next one. At a press conference Monday morning, Paul told the country her decision, and shortly after another Green leader, Guelph MPP Mike Schreiner, released a statement thanking Paul for “daring, bold and resilient leadership” as the Federal Greens now struggle again for direction. One Week Before Policy Starts, Ontario Government Announces Guidelines for Vax Certificates

This time next week will be the last day you can go inside many places without being asked for proof of vaccination. The Government of Ontario’s vaccine certification effort goes into effect a week from Wednesday, and, just in time, we now have the regulations and guidance that will guide the program. The ball is now in the court of local businesses and organizations, not to mention all of us, to make it work. As the Federal Election Heats Up, Queen’s Park Moves to Prorogue Itself

Apparently it just occurred to the Government of Ontario that there’s a Federal Election, and apparently that means they can’t do anything until more than two weeks after it’s over. Because You Demanded It (and the Feds Didn’t) Ford Introduces Vaccine Certificates

After weeks of pressure, and weeks without a formal press conference, Premier Doug Ford and Minister of Health Christine Elliot joined Chief Medical Officer of Health Dr, Kieran Moore to announce a great idea they had: A vaccine certification program. Sources Say a Change is Coming on Vaccine Certificates

After weeks of excuses – from saying that they didn’t want to create a two-tiered system, to saying that a piece of paper easily copied in Microsoft Word was fine as proof – there’s news Friday night that the Government of Ontario might be changing their minds on vaccine certificates. Schreiner Tells AMO Conference That Greens Have Got Their Back

On the last day of the Association of Municipalities of Ontario’s annual conference, Guelph MPP and Mike Schreiner got his chance to assume the virtual stage and talk to the delegates. Schreiner’s focus was that Greens aren’t just the people that municipalities should turn to for environmental issues, but that they have a plan for housing and other areas necessary for the post-pandemic recovery. Ontario Gov Announces Vaccine Mandates for Some, Rapid Tests for Others

The Government of Ontario is making some changes in regards to vaccinations, and not just about who can get a vaccine, but who must now get a vaccine. Although still apparently shirking vaccine mandates for the whole province, the government now wants employees in high risk settings to be vaccinated, but it seems that Ontario’s schools do not count as “high-risk” where rapid testing and contact tracing will remain the first line of defense.
