Commission Hears Feedback About New Combined Guelph-Halton-Wellington Riding

On Wednesday night, the Federal Electoral Boundaries Commission for Ontario opened their Zoom lines for people in Guelph, Wellington County, Halton Region and Mississauga to talk about the proposed changes to the electoral map. The voters in these areas might be looking at some pretty big changes to their current ridings, and they had some very specific thoughts about the proposed maps. Mac’s Back – For Real – With Lots of Questions

After flicking his campaign website off and on earlier this week, it seems that Ward 1 council candidate Thai Mac is now all the way back in just two weeks after saying that he was unofficially pulling out. In his latest statement, Mac made a lot of accusations about an unnamed Ward 1 candidate, and added that he’s talked to local LGBTQ+ advocacy groups about how he can do better in the future. En français! Kids and Politicians Raise the Franco‑Ontario Flag at City Hall

You may be unaware that September 25 is Franco-Ontario Day, an occasion to honour the history and community around French-speaking Ontarians. Since this year’s Frano-Ontario Day falls on Sunday, there was an early commemoration on Friday at Guelph City Hall. Local politicians were joined by over 100 students from Guelph’s two French language schools as they literally let their French flag fly. Continue reading “En français! This Month at Council: Planning Decisions, Help for Straws, and “Strong Mayors” Rebuttal

As scheduled, Guelph City Council returned from summer break, but this September there were a couple of caveats. First, there are renovations underway in the council chambers so the two meetings were 100 per cent virtual once again. Also, these were the only two meetings before the October 24 election, and you might think that there wouldn’t be a lot of action but there were some very big decisions made indeed. Remembrances from Local and Upper Levels of Gov’t for Queen Elizabeth II

Her coronation was one of the first mass-broadcast events after TV started to become something more and more people owned, and at the end of her reign, Queen Elizabeth II was doing stuff on Zoom like the rest of us. She also had a YouTube page. All of this is to say that there was a lot of change in the 70 years that Elizabeth Alexandra Mary Windsor sat on the throne of the United Kingdom.
