It was just over a week ago that Premier Doug Ford misplaced a rebuke against Guelph MPP Mike Schreiner for turning down the opportunity to host a Chinese glass plant in a riding he doesn’t represent. But now allegations have been made that Ford is meeting with Xinyi behind closed doors in order to find a way to get the glass plant built after all. Guelph wasn’t the first on the list to get a legal cannabis store, but we are one of the first to get a location for ours. The LCBO, and its legal post subsidiary the Ontario Cannabis Store (OCS), announced Wednesday where four of the government pot shops will open this summer. Appropriately enough, the Royal City’s OCS will open nestled near a number of snack-friendly locations in the plaza across from, appropriately enough, Stone Road Mall. The word Nestlé is the source of much controversy in our area, but one can’t deny that there are a number of people in and around Guelph, and across the province, that owe their livelihood to Nestlé. And so we’re reminded of this again today with the Government of Ontario’s announcement that they are partnering with Nestlé to support new jobs, and to keep old ones, up the road in London, Ontario.
