We’re a community that gets our drinking water from ground sources, and that means we have to be even more guarded about potential threats to those sources, which has long included private water taking operations. Nestlé Waters Bugs Out of Canada, as Ontario Looks to Change the Rules

It was the news that water protectors and environmentalists have long waited to hear, the announcement that Nestlé is getting out of the bottled water business, or at least the “Pure Life” brand of bottled water that is taken from so many wells and aquifers in our area. The news comes on the heels of the Government of Ontario’s announcement that they’re seeking input on enhancing water quality programs that will affect the bottling industry. Schreiner Presents “Save Our Water” Petition in Legislature

Guelph MPP Mike Schreiner presented a petition in the Ontario Legislature today that asks for the Provincial government to take steps to protect Ontario’s water from exploitation by private businesses. There’s presently a moratorium for issuing new water taking permits in the province, but 3,500 signatories on the petition are asking Queen’s Park to do better. Province of Ontario Makes Another Deal with Nestle, Not Water Related

The word Nestlé is the source of much controversy in our area, but one can’t deny that there are a number of people in and around Guelph, and across the province, that owe their livelihood to Nestlé. And so we’re reminded of this again today with the Government of Ontario’s announcement that they are partnering with Nestlé to support new jobs, and to keep old ones, up the road in London, Ontario. Guelph City Council will be discussing the Nestle Water renewal of its Permit to Take Water on Monday at a special meeting of Committee-of-the-Whole. Nestle Gives $460K to UofG to Study the Groundwater it Wants to Take
