Covering education issues has been weird the last couple of years during the pandemic; while keeping schools open for in-person learning was a priority, teachers felt that their concerns weren’t being heard. Now, education is struggling to be made an election priority, and education workers have been trying to put their concerns back on the frontburner since March 2020, so this seems like an interesting place to begin a provincial campaign. Ford Asks Lt. Gov. to Dissolve Legislature to Officially Begin Election

The media release from the Government of Ontario was succinct and to the point. “Premier Doug Ford today confirmed that the Honourable Elizabeth Dowdeswell, Lieutenant Governor of Ontario, has accepted the premier’s advice to sign a proclamation dissolving the 42nd Parliament of the Province of Ontario.” Ontario’s general election officially began at 4 pm and started a month-long countdown to Election Day. Election Events Already Scheduled to Hear From Provincial Candidates

The Ontario general election may unofficially be underway, but Premier Doug Ford has until Wednesday to have the Legislature dissolved and the writs drawn up to make the election campaign a real thing that’s happening. Schreiner Pledges That a Green Gov’t Will Build 60k Supportive Housing Units

Along the banks of Guelph’s Speed River near the Boathouse on Tuesday morning, Guelph MPP and Green Party leader Mike Schreiner announced his party’s intention to build 60,000 permanent supportive housing units in Ontario with wrap-around support. Schreiner said that the housing and mental health crises are inexorably linked and he challenged Premier Doug Ford to steal his idea for Thursday’s budget. For Some Reason, Roger Stone is Now Advising the Ontario Party

Yes, that Roger Stone. The Ontario Party today announced that they’ve hired the man who advised both Richard Nixon and Donald Trump as their “Senior Strategic Advisor.” Stone, who’s colourful history includes many brushes with the law, said he was inspired to join the Ontario Party by the recent Freedom Convoy and the fact that the Progressive Conservative Party under Doug Ford does not represent true conservative values. Healthcare Improvements Are the Priority in NDP Platform

We’re 37 days away from the Provincial Election that’s not yet been officially called, but there doesn’t mean that campaigning is not hitting a fevered pitch. Ontario Government Announces Second Min. Wage Hike in 6 Months

For the second time in a year, the Ontario government has announced an increase to the minimum wage. Phrased as an eight per cent bump to “help workers keep up with rising costs and inflation”, and as another positive pre-election announcement from the government, the exact amount of the increase is 50 cents, which means that starting on October 1, the minimum wage for Ontarians will now be $15.50 per hour. Calandra Says His Party is Dedicated to Best Possible Long-Term Care

The pressure on Ontario’s long-term care homes has been enormous since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020, which is maybe why it’s understandable that there’s been three long-term care ministers in Ontario during that time period. Schreiner Gets Grassroots Election Ready with Office Opening

Over 70 people got together inside an Edinburgh Road South store front on Saturday afternoon. They were cheering, they were excited, they were ready to get others to share their enthusiasm about a candidate. It was a political rally! Parr Completes “Big Four” Accepting Provincial NDP Nomination for Guelph

On Monday night, the provincial electoral district of Guelph now has a full slate of major party candidates for the spring provincial election with the acclimation of James Parr as the New Democratic candidate.
