The Provincial Election Has More or Less Begun
Although we know it’s been coming for months (if not years), Premier Kathleen Wynne made the move today to finally drop the writ and let the election for the 42nd Ontario legislature begin. Continue reading “The Provincial Election Has More or Less Begun”
Suzuki, May, and Cast of Thousands Rally to Support Schreiner
It was an afternoon of song and dance, spoken word, fiery political rhetoric, and hope that Guelph’s future, in the short term, will be Green. The campaign for Green Party Leader Mike Schreiner held what was billed as the “largest political rally in Guelph history” Saturday at the Hanlon Convention Centre. Continue reading “Suzuki, May, and Cast of Thousands Rally to Support Schreiner”

Q&A with Alliance Party of Ontario Candidate Thomas Mooney
He made news last summer by deciding not to run, but now he’s running for an upstart party that’s aiming to be an alternative to voters across the entire spectrum fed up with politics as usual. The Alliance Party of Ontario wants to bring provincial politics back to the grassroots, and their local candidate is Thomas Mooney, a man that knows all about standing up for what he believes in. Dorgo Makes a Case for Himself as PC Nominee
Steven Dorgo is at his most animated when talking about the possibilities of Diyode, Guelph’s “do-it-yourself” community workshop. Dorgo says life is about more than you’re job, it’s about unwinding from that work stress, indulging your creative instincts, and using your hands to make stuff. It’s something he thinks that the present provincial government hasn’t taken into account, which is one of the reasons why he wants to run for office… as the PC candidate. Continue reading “Dorgo Makes a Case for Himself as PC Nominee”
Former PC Nominee Mooney Becomes Ontario Alliance Candidate
Famously last summer, Thomas Mooney decided that he couldn’t run for the local candidacy of the Progressive Conservative Party due to the old leadership of Patrick Brown. It turns out, even under new leadership, he doesn’t want to be the face of the PCs in Guelph and has instead found a new party to run for. Quite literally. Guelph Politico Moderates [Almost] All Candidates Panel
In a vexing turn of events, Guelph Politico was invited to moderate an all-candidates meeting at the University of Guelph-Humber on Friday in advance of the provincial election. The topics were largely educational in nature, but might we be here looking to the future and what the tenure and tone of the debate will look like once the writ is dropped? Continue reading “Guelph Politico Moderates [Almost] All Candidates Panel”
