Now This is How You Ride the Bus

It was on this day last year that the tensions between the City and Guelph Transit workers was finally resolved after a protracted and antagonistic negotiation that culminated in a lockout of the bus drivers and mass disruption to the lives of bus users. One of the problems with the way transit is run in this city, from both the point of view of management and the point of view that those that have the option to not use transit, is that taking the bus is only a grueling, uncomfortable experience. Well, at least the City of Edmonton is looking to change that opinion.

City Wants Your Two Cents About the Budget

After the truncated effort to pass a budget earlier this year, the City of Guelph, its staff, and political leaders are going to try something new for the 2016 Budget, a massive new effort to try and gather as much community consultation as possible before city council votes for the final budget in December.

A Quick Note About Election Coverage

So here we are, another Federal campaign. This blog started with a Federal election, the 2008 by-election to replace Brenda Chamberlain as Member of Parliament for Guelph, and that became the full-blown 2008 Federal Election exactly one day before it was over. Whatever They Were, the Site with the Drums is Clean Says City

The incredible case of mysterious drums buried near the intersection of Wellington St. and the Hanlon Expressway has been a local curiosity since the first drum was dug up last fall. But whatever they are, and wherever they came from, the City of Guelph is saying that the site is officially clean, even if they still aren’t revealing – or are just unsure – what or why they were buried in the first place. Kovach Confirmed as the Conservative Candidate for Guelph

In a non-upset, unsurprising move, the Guelph Electoral District Association (EDA) of the Conservative Party of Canada has announced that Gloria Kovach has been acclaimed as the party’s candidate for the Guelph riding in the upcoming Federal Election. The Conservatives are the last major party in the Royal City to announced their candidate for the election, which is expected to be called this fall for October 19. PRESS RELEASE – Tree Removal and Replacement on Carden St

In local plant news, it seems that some of the tress along Carden Street have been suffering from a bit too much water. Despite the persistent dryness during this past month of May, it seems that too much watering has caused the death of several trees along Carden Street. The cause of that is a matter being further examined by the city, in the meantime though, the trees will be removed and replaced starting sometime in the immediate future. Former Enviro Commish of Ontario Miller Making Big Political Move

A curious press release showed up this morning, an invitation to a press event where in Gord Miller, former Environmental Commissioner of Ontario, will be announcing “his plan to run in the upcoming federal election in the riding of Guelph.” Specifically? Well, if he’s going to be a major party candidate, he has one of two choices, and considering his career path, it should be fairly obvious what colour banner he’ll be waving come the fall.
