At 10C Shared Space today there was a candidate forum that tried to put the emphasis on sharing in lieu of debating. About a dozen of the candidates running in Wards 1, 2 and 3 came out in front of a live studio audience for the first to two council candidate forums to discuss the Sustainable Development Goals or SDGs, as outlined by the U.N., and how we can incorporate those goals into the solutions for the challenges facing Guelph. With early voting set to begin at the end of the week, Monday began appropriately with a mayoral debate. The venue was the Italian Canadian Club, the host was the Guelph and District Association of Realtors, and the topic was the only topic: housing. Cam Guthrie, John Edward Krusky, and William Albabish took the stage to talk about their ideas around Guelph’s housing issues, and the solutions they have to offer. For years before that though it was known as Orange Shirt Day, a chance to stop, think, and remember all the Indigenous children stolen from their homes, and then taken before their time through an apparatus of abuse and colonization known as the residential school system.
