Economic Development Minister Meets with Guelph Businesses

Businesses of all shapes and sizes are struggling because of the pandemic, and doubly so now that it’s clear that were into a second wave of COVID-19. Small businesses especially need the extra help, and there are a number of government programs designed to give them a hand. University of Guelph Gets Federal Money for Environmental Upgrades

This long weekend, the University of Guelph will be giving thanks to the Federal government and MP Lloyd Longfield for about three quarters of a million dollars in new funding to upgrade campus’ environmental sustainability. Annamie Paul Break Barriers as the New Green Party of Canada Leader

That cracking you heard on Saturday night was the glass ceiling being shattered in the historic vote that made Toronto lawyer Annamie Paul the new leader of the Green Party of Canada. Paul is now the first Black woman to lead a major Canadian political party, the first Jewish woman to lead a major Canadian political party, and she succeeds Elizabeth May as the only female leader of a major Canadian political party. AGG and Guelph Museums Get Federal Money for BIPOC Programming

Two local cultural institutions are getting a big assist from the Federal government. In a virtual announcement today, Guelph Member of Parliament Lloyd Longfield announced on behalf of Minister of Canadian Heritage Steven Guilbeault that the Art Gallery of Guelph and the Guelph Civic Museum will receive $100,000 from the Federal government. Chong Fills Important Role in O’Toole’s Shadow Cabinet

Tabbara Case Held Over By Guelph Court Until Late-August

The court case that has intrigued a nation, and raised questions about transparency with the Guelph Police Service, made it’s way to a Guelph courtroom on Friday… to be continued. As Tabbara went to court, the national broadcaster reported new information that allegations about the Kitchener-South Hespeler Member of Parliament were known by the Liberal Party before the 2019 election, and he was allowed to run anyway. Federal Funding Will Help Deliver 20 More EV Charging Stations in Guelph

With the local economy re-opening from pandemic lockdown, more people are going to be going more places. For people with an electric vehicle (EV) going out can be tough if you’re not sure if there’s a charging station nearby if you need one, which is one reason why the Federal government is contributing $100,000 for a total of $320,000 in combined funding with the City for 20 new charging stations in Guelph. Four Guelph Groups Get Federal Funds for Food Security

Kitchener MP Arrested in Guelph, Will “Step Back” From Caucus

Kitchener-South Hespeler MP Marwan Tabbara has announced that he will be taking a “step back” from the Liberal caucus after it was revealed that he was arrested for a series of charges in Guelph on April 10. Tabbara will still be representing his constituents for the time being, but he also acknowledges the charges while adding that he’s being treated for anxiety and depression.
