There’s been a lot of talk about the Baker District Redevelopment, what we want it to say about our community, and whether or not we’re going to get any government funds to help make it happen. Today, Guelph MP Lloyd Longfield and others took part in and announcement that covers all those bases as the Government of Canada and the Federation of Canadian Municipalities (FCM) is teaming up to support 125 new initiatives across Canada amounting with nearly $10 million in funds. On an episode of the Guelph Politicast back in April, filmmaker Kalev Jaason talked about his documentary Diverted, and his attempt to prevent large quantities of reusable items left on the curb by students leaving town from ending up in the landfill. His efforts have not been in vein, as 25 different local organizations have become the beneficiaries of the diversion tactics of Jaason and a team of volunteers.
