MEETING PREVIEW: Guelph Public Library Board for February 26, 2024

As usual, we get to the end of the month and the regularly scheduled meeting of the Guelph Public Library Board of Directors. This month is a kind of special occasion, a sad occasion, because this is the last meeting for CEO Steve Kraft after a 41-year illustrious career in the library business in Guelph. Still, much of the meeting will be looking to the future, both the short and the long-term. Continue reading “MEETING PREVIEW: Guelph Public Library Board for February 26, 2024”

GUELPH POLITICAST #407 – Mike’s Homes

When the Ontario Legislature resumed sitting this week, Guelph MPP Mike Schreiner wasn’t sitting alone as the only Green member. The fact that Aislinn Clancy won handily in Kitchener Centre might be a sign that people are interested in listen to Green ideas, and the Legislature will get a chance to show they they’re listening next week by sending Schreiner’s private member’s bill to committee and naturally, he thinks they should! RECAP: Accessibility Committee Has to Punt Election Decision Due to Packed Agenda

The first Accessibility Advisory Committee meeting of the year was packed! Even more packed than usual. Good thing then that one of the things discussed was the use of consent agenda items to try and streamline things, but the biggest thing on this agenda, the item that was bound to be the most contentious and controversial, ended up having to be postponed when the committee ran out time. So how did it all shake out? Here’s the recap!! Continue reading “RECAP: Accessibility Committee Has to Punt Election Decision Due to Packed Agenda”

MEETING PREVIEW: Grand River Conservation Membership Meeting for February 23, 2024

If it’s February at the Grand River Conservation Authority then that means it’s time for the Annual General Meeting for the membership board, and if it’s the AGM, then that means it’s time for the final passage of the budget. This Week at Council: Planning, Tribunal and Encampments Form the Trifecta

There are busy weeks at council, and then there’s spending nearly half of a 28-hour period in the council chambers. That was the time frame this week at 1 Carden Street, and in that period there was a planning meeting, a meeting where council sat as tribunal on a matter of misapplied Development Charges, and, the big one, a marathon meeting about a Public Spaces Use bylaw. To see how it all turned out, consult this week’s recap below… Continue reading “This Week at Council: Planning, Tribunal and Encampments Form the Trifecta”

CITY PAGES: Family Day Hours, PA Day Moved, and New Building Opens

The City of Guelph, and it’s various partners and agencies, put out a lot of information on a weekly basis, and while it all ends up on the City’s website somewhere, wouldn’t it be easier to just scroll through it all on one easy-to-read article on Guelph Politico here…? City Council Preview – What’s on the Agenda for the February 27 Meeting?

Although we’ve technically not quite gotten to the end of the month, we’ve at least gotten to the agenda for the end of the month. At the regular council meeting on the last Tuesday in February, we will cover again all the business from Committee of the Whole and then get into new business, which involves an annual visit from someone special and some big changes to an importance shared services committee. All that and some recognitions and in-camera stuff too! Continue reading “City Council Preview – What’s on the Agenda for the February 27 Meeting?”

Continue reading “MEETING PREVIEW: Accessibility Advisory Committee for February 20, 2024”

RECAP: Transit Advisory Committee Takes a Look at Itself This Month

This month’s Transit Advisory Committee meeting wasn’t focused so much on the functioning of transit as it was focused on the function of the committee itself. The special guest this month was Dylan McMahon from the clerks’ office who led the committee through a familiar exercise to determine where they fall in the new framework for Advisory Committees of Council. So let’s dive into the recap for this one… Continue reading “RECAP: Transit Advisory Committee Takes a Look at Itself This Month”
