Guelph Teachers Take Part in Province-Wide One Day Strike

Nearly 200,000 teachers in 72 school boards spent their Friday on the picket line instead of in the classroom, effectively shutting down nearly 5,000 schools in Ontario, and keeping nearly two million students at home. It was the biggest job action by Ontario teachers since 1997, and it was a further escalation in the labour face-off between teachers and the Government of Ontario that seems unlikely to end any time soon. Local Elementary School Teachers Take Their Turn on the Picket Line

Using the sidewalks along Woolwich between Norfolk and Baker Street was tricky on Tuesday as hundreds of local elementary school teachers took part in a rotating one-day strike by the Elementary Teachers Federation of Ontario (ETFO). The second week of strike action hit the schools in the Upper Grand District Board, but it’s only the beginning of local labour strife with elementary teachers. Striking Teachers Defiant as Government Tries to Win Parents

For the first time since early December, teachers of the Upper Grand School Board and the Wellington Catholic District School Board took part in a one-day strike organized by the Ontario Secondary School Teacher’s Federation (OSSTF). But as teachers marched, the Minister of Education appealed to parents by announcing that if the strikes continue, the Government of Ontario will pick up the tab for childcare. Ontario’s Education Showdown Gets More Intense as One-Day Strike Hits Guelph

The Upper Grand District School Board and the Wellington Catholic District School Board are getting their time to strike this coming Wednesday in the latest round of job action from the Ontario Secondary School Teachers Federation (OSSTF). School Board Declares Climate Emergency in Unanimous Motion

At the meeting of the Upper Grand District School Board on Tuesday, trustees voted unanimously to declare a climate emergency. The motion will create a new climate change committee of the board, which will look for ways to reduce the carbon footprint at Guelph and area public schools, and promote others to lead by example.
