Over 200 Advocacy Groups Demand Immediate Increase to Social Assistance

A coalition of 230 social services and community groups have called on the Provincial government and Premier Doug Ford to double Ontario Works (OW) and Ontario Disability Support Program (ODSP) rates. In an open letter, the group says that current crises around poverty, homelessness and mental health can all be tied to years of under-funding in social services, and doubling the rates would be a good start to begin a redress. RECAP: County Committee Supports Council Direction on Homelessness

Responding to a motion from Guelph City Council to hold an emergency meeting on homelessness in Downtown Guelph, the Wellington County’s social services committee gathered to address those concerns. County’s Social Services Committee to Hold Special Meeting on Thursday

Just a couple of days after Guelph City Council ratified a slate of motions meant to direct action on homelessness, mental health and addiction issues in Downtown Guelph, the City’s social services provider will gather the committee that oversees them for a special meeting. On Thursday, Wellington County’s social services committee, which includes Mayor Cam Guthrie as a member, will answer some of Guelph council’s questions. Police Are Looking for Witnesses in Murder Investigation

It’s always big news when there’s a homicide being investigated in Guelph, and it was big news on Wednesday when rumours started being traded on social media that the Guelph Police Service was in the process of investigating such a case. Indeed, the official word from the Guelph Police on Wednesday is that they are investigating a homicide, and while the suspect is custody, they’re still investigating and asking for help. Ontario Opens Up Second Boosters to Everyone Over 18. Tomorrow.

It’s been a while since we heard from Ontario’s Chief Medical Officer of Health, but Dr. Kieran Moore emerged in front of the press again on Wednesday, and in the midst of a summer COVID wave he invited everyone in the province over the age of 18 to get their second booster. As of Thursday July 18 at 8 am, every adult in Ontario can get a booster if its been five months since their last shot. CRTC Demanding Answers from Rogers About Outage

Barely four days after a Canada-wide service interruption on the Rogers network, the head of Canada’s telecom regulator is calling the company out and demanding a fulsome explanation. A statement on Tuesday from the chairperson and CEO of the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission (CRTC) has a list of questions for Rogers, and he wants them answered almost immediately.
