Committee of the Whole Preview – What’s on the Agenda for the September 17, 2024 Meeting?
It’s another one of those times when we’re getting two Committees of the Whole in the same month (is that the proper pluralisation?). At this second committee meeting, there’s an audit of the City’s bid to electrify the transit fleet, an update about the fiscal 2024 finances, and, perhaps most importantly, a discussion about developing a renoviction bylaw and a scan of the City of Guelph’s efforts to create more affordable housing. GUELPH POLITICAST #432 – Born to Run the Run (feat. David Picard)
The first Terry Fox Run took place in 1981, just a few months after the young man it’s named after passed away, and a little over a year after his Marathon of Hope came to an abrupt end. Over the last 43 years, millions and millions of dollars have been raised for cancer research, including over $1 million from Guelph alone, and all of this was done through the power of some very passionate volunteers. This is the story of one of them. Continue reading “GUELPH POLITICAST #432 – Born to Run the Run (feat. David Picard)”
This Week at Council: Second Time’s the Charm for Public Space Bylaw
It was business as unusual this past week because city council should have one last week off before the start of September. Instead, there were a couple of extra meetings, one short and one pretty long. At the first meeting, council had a decision to make about the hiring of a new CAO, and in the other there was an even tougher decision regarding a matter so deeply controversial it packed the gallery. Here’s the recap… Continue reading “This Week at Council: Second Time’s the Charm for Public Space Bylaw”
CITY PAGES: Labour Day Hours, Safe Semester is On, and GRCA Needs Feedback

MEETING PREVIEW: Heritage Guelph Meeting for September 9, 2024
It’s “Back to School” time for Heritage Guelph, though there’s really nothing related to school on this month’s agenda. This busy docket for the heritage conservation team will see a couple of permits, an appointment, at least one new future designation to consider, and another three to pass on to council. Put your history shoes on, nerds! There’s going to be a lot of ground to cover!! Continue reading “MEETING PREVIEW: Heritage Guelph Meeting for September 9, 2024”
City Council Preview – What’s on the Agenda for the September 10, 2024 Meeting?
The first planning meeting of the fall will have something for everyone, a new project that’s bound to be controversial, a decision on a project that was sort of controversial a few months ago, a new heritage designation, and some pruning to the City of Guelph’s new Comprehensive Zoning Bylaw. Are these the best laid plans, or will some delegates and council members have other ideas? Let’s take a look… Continue reading “City Council Preview – What’s on the Agenda for the September 10, 2024 Meeting?”
