GUELPH POLITICAST #432 – Born to Run the Run (feat. David Picard)

The first Terry Fox Run took place in 1981, just a few months after the young man it’s named after passed away, and a little over a year after his Marathon of Hope came to an abrupt end. Over the last 43 years, millions and millions of dollars have been raised for cancer research, including over $1 million from Guelph alone, and all of this was done through the power of some very passionate volunteers. This is the story of one of them. Continue reading “GUELPH POLITICAST #432 – Born to Run the Run (feat. David Picard)”

GUELPH POLITICAST #396 – Un-Forgetting the Korean War

This Saturday is Remembrance Day, our annual opportunity to stop and remember Canada’s war dead who made the ultimate sacrifice and the ones that came home. But not all wars are remembered equally. For instance, the Korean War has long been characterized as “the forgotten war”, so on this 70th anniversary of the unofficial end of the Korean War, how can we make sure that the forgotten war gets remembered? GUELPH POLITICAST #383 – The Housing Guru

As you may know, Ontario has set the goal of building 1.5 million houses by 2031, and Guelph’s share is 18,000, but there’s a difference between setting a goal and having the means to reach it. We’re a single-tier municipality, and as a federal and provincial riding out city limits have also been our electoral boundaries. But now Guelph has to learn to share. The Federal Electoral Boundaries Commission for Ontario is recommending that among the changes to the electoral map, Guelph must now be split along the south end.
