COVID-19: Outbreak at Guelph General While Ontario Announces Help for Businesses

For the first time since May, there’s a COVID-19 outbreak at Guelph General Hospital. The news comes just a day after the hospital announced that they’re limiting visitors for patients starting Thursday, and more than seven months after the last outbreak. At the same time, there was some good news on Wednesday as the Government of Ontario announced that there’s help for small businesses fighting to stay open in the wake of Omicron. Ontario Now Last Province Standing Without a Childcare Deal

One of the main issues in the recently completed Federal Election was the Liberal government plan to supply the county with $10 per day childcare. During that election, about half the country had still not struck a deal with the the Feds, but as of today, every Canadian province, save one, has achieved affordable childcare. Guelphites Remind MP’s Office That They’re Looking for Some Climate Action

On the last day of the COP26 climate conference in Glasgow, international delegates tried to reach a deal to further the cause of stopping a two degree increase to the global temperature that will lead to a climate catastrophe. More Federal Money for Second Chance to Find Jobs for Women

The economic issues stemming from COVID-19 are as well known as the health implications at this point: The massive disruption to service-based businesses, the lack of summer work in those businesses for young people, and the disproportionate effect on women in the workforce. City, Mayor Launch Charm Offensive to Attract Moderna Facility

Guelph Soccer Gets Money to Promote Girls in Sport

Last week, the Canadian Women & Sport and E-Alliance released a study that found one in four girls who took part in a sport prior to COVID-19 will not be returning. That means as many as 350,000 young women across the country will no longer be getting the fun and benefit of participating in sports, and that’s something the Federal government wants to stop from happening. City Gets Federal Money to Standardize Energy Management

How do you know you’re being as efficient with energy as you possibly can? For most of us, when it comes to our own homes, if we’re paying $200 less on our hydro bill then it’s possible it’s because we’re more energy efficient. But that’s not very scientific, is it?
