RECAP: Consultants Lay Out a Plan to Promote the New Library for the Board
It was a good day for the Guelph Public Library, and not just because today was the day for the monthly Board of Directors meeting. After the announcement Monday morning that the new library project was getting some cash from the federal government, the board sat down to talk to a consultant about how they were going to sell it. In other matters they talked about cyber security, operating variances, and the status of the present main library. Let’s recap… Continue reading “RECAP: Consultants Lay Out a Plan to Promote the New Library for the Board”
Guelph Gets $13.5 Million for New Main Library Building
One could make an inappropriate joke about a government funding announcement in front of a giant hole in the ground, but Baker Street was only filled with the laughter that comes from joy on Monday morning. The mood was celebratory at the site of the Baker District Redevelopment, future home of Guelph’s 88,000 square-foot new main library building, which just got easier to build with a $13.5 million cheque from the federal government. This Week at Council: Demolition Bylaw, Man.
Don’t judge an agenda by its cover. The docket for this month’s planning meeting of city council looked kind of plain, but looks can b deceiving and at least one item on the agenda opened up an opportunity take a deeper dive on demolition policy, or demolition by neglect policy to be precise. There will be more about that coming this year, but for now here’s what was said on the matter at this past week’s council meeting. Continue reading “This Week at Council: Demolition Bylaw, Man.”

RECAP: Cobey Tells Police Board They’re Building to Meet New Challenges
This month’s meeting of the Guelph Police Services Board seemed a bit reactionary to recent events. You probably saw the news last week that police made a $5 million drug bust that also involved some illegal firearms, and it’s that second part that’s becoming more of a concern, and you will read why in the recap. In terms of good news, Chief Gord Cobey thinks that Guelph Police are rising to the occasion. Check out the recap for more below… Continue reading “RECAP: Cobey Tells Police Board They’re Building to Meet New Challenges”
Dolime Development Open to Suggestions at First Look Open House
In the west end of Guelph you will find the newest part of town, 230 acres of land sitting on top of about 11 million litres of precious ground water. Presently, this land is still the Dolime Quarry, but in the years to come it will be a new subdivision. So with development plans currently in the works, the land’s owner, River Valley Developments, opened up the doors for the first time for public input.
