***Please note that not all offenses and police calls are reported in the daily Guelph Police media release.

Fraud

Two different Guelph seniors lost thousands of dollars to an increasingly common scam. Both people received phone calls from someone they believed was their grandson who claimed that they had been involved in collisions and injured their noses, which is why they sounded different. In both cases, arrangements were made for someone to attend the victim’s residence to collect the cash; one victim handed over $8,000 and the other $6,000.

In one case, the money was given to a black male in his early 20s, 5’6” to 5’10” with a slim build. In the other case, the money was given to a black male and female with dreadlocks who arrived in an older-model grey sedan, possibly a Toyota, with tinted windows.
