Ontario Loosens Restrictions, Extends Emergency
The Government of Ontario announced Wednesday that they are getting ready to take another small step to re-opening the provincial economy. Local Longo’s Employee Tests Positive for COVID-19
Grocery stores have been called essential services by the Provincial government, which is why the workers there are vulnerable to catching COVID-19. It’s happened before, and now it’s happened in Guelph, specifically at the Clair Road location of Longo’s. According to a company press release, a worker at Longo’s Guelph has tested positive for COVID-19, but the chain’s owner is saying that they’re handling it. University of Guelph Names a Historic New President
In midst of a very disruptive school year where campus has been nearly emptied and all classes are going digital, the University of Guelph have announced the person they’ve hired to get things back to normal for 2020/21. Charlotte Yates, currently the provost and vice-president (academic), has been hired as the ninth president of the U of G, and the first female to hold the office. Ontario Government Reveals List of Essential Business, Plus Hydro Rate Cut
All non-essential businesses in Ontario will be closed by midnight tonight as mandated by the Government of Ontario, and they’ve released a comprehensive list featuring 74 categories of businesses that will be allowed to remain open. At the same time, the Government has also announced that they will be providing rate relief for hydro prices by suspending time-of-use metering for the next month-and-a-half. Guelph Arts Council Cancels Upcoming Events
In what might be the last holdout after days of cancellations, the Guelph Arts Council formally closed its office, and cancelled all upcoming events for the rest of March and April. City Steps Up Facility Closures as COV-19 Concerns Continue
Before the work week has even begun, the City of Guelph has already made some tweaks to it’s plans to mitigate the spread of the Novel Coronavirus. Although there has yet to be any cases of COVID-19 in Guelph and Wellington County, the City of Guelph has announced that they’re taking enhanced precautions, and is temporarily closing down several facilities.
