City Council Preview – What’s on the Agenda for the September 12 Meeting?
After the usual summer vacation, Guelph City Council is back for the first of the two meetings, the last two council meetings before October’s municipal election. This one is the planning meeting, at home in its usual (for now) spot in the second Monday of the month. This meeting though, as the last planning meeting of the term, will be particular heavy with some very big decisions that will shape or re-shape the south end especially. Guelph Might Be Two Ridings in New Distribution Model
You may not be aware, but Elections Canada is presently in the process of reviewing district boundaries across the country. Since 2004, Guelph has been a riding on its own, but as we all know Guelph is a rapidly growing city, and a single MP can only represent so many people. Competing Vision for Cities on Day Two of the AMO Conference
Day two of the Association of Municipalities of Ontario conference brought two big speakers with some different ideas about the needs of cities. In one slot was the man currently serving in the post of the Minister of Municipal Affairs and Housing, and in the other was the man who’s currently the only elected opposition leader in the Ontario legislature, and they offered very different visions indeed.
