Almost two weeks into a peak-less summer, people are still frustrated by the reduction of service hours to Guelph Transit, and Transit’s General Manager Phil Meagher wants you to know that he feels your pain. Continue reading “Transit Manager Says the Problems Without Peak Service Were Predictable”

Transit Users Not Pleased – Okay Pissed – This First Week Without Peak Service
If users rated your service a 1.8 out of 5 on your own Facebook business page, would you try to make your service better? If your Guelph Transit the answer is ‘no’. It’s a paradoxic move for the service even as it moves into council mandated budget cuts for the summer and the loss of twice-a-day peak service. The reaction from the public in the last week though has not been good, as the cuts are being blamed for delays and missed transfers by the City’s dedicated bus riders. Keeping up with the changes to Guelph Transit can be tricky sometimes, but this is one of those occasions where we’re dealing with a lot of information at once. The next few weeks are going to be hard on just about everyone taking the bus as routes and schedules are altered thanks to budget cuts, film shoots, road construction and the end of the school year. Family Day Will Mark Beginning of One Hour Holiday Transit Service
Back in December during budget deliberations, city council passed a motion to make stat holiday service run on a one-hour schedule for the 2016 calendar year. That schedule will go into effect for the first time on Family Day, February 15, and Guelph Transit is hustling to get the word out so that everyone can make the transition in time for the holiday a week from Monday. New Year’s Directions for 2016
I don’t believe in New Year’s Resolutions. If you want to make a change in your life don’t wait for an arbitrary date on the calendar to start making those changes just because it’s the first day of a New Year. Having said that though, it seems appropriate to take this time to set goals for the coming year, and this year for Politico I have some big goals. To my mind, nothing makes you working harder to achieve goals than making it known publicly that you have a plan, and in the interest of full disclosure, here are five things you can look forward to changing this year on Guelph Politico. BUDGET 2016: Many Concerned About Proposed Transit Cuts
Tonight, Guelph City Council received feedback from the general public regarding the proposed Operation budget for 2016, and of the 37 delegations that spoke, nearly more than a third, had transit on their minds. City staff recommended that one-way fares be raised from $3 to $4, and that service should be rolled back to one hour on Sundays and holidays, and it was the opinion of all 13 that spoke on the matter tonight that such moves were a bad idea. Results for St Paddy’s Day Improved Over 2014
Perhaps because of an abundance of preparation, or perhaps because the weather was so-so, or perhaps because it was a Tuesday, the results from St. Patrick’s Day in Guelph was pretty good according to the Guelph Police Service. Continue reading “Results for St Paddy’s Day Improved Over 2014”
City Planning More Changes to Transit; Looking for Feedback
Four years ago when the City of Guelph revamped the entire Guelph Tranist route and schedule system it did not go exactly according to plan. Adjustments were made, Transit tried to address the whole new set of problems created by the change with some degree of success, but a lot of transit riders will agree that it’s far from smooth sailing riding the bus in the Royal City. Now, Tranist thinks they may have found some answers via a ridership survey taken earlier this year. Will these new routes and new schedules be the answer to Guelph’s transit woes? Continue reading “City Planning More Changes to Transit; Looking for Feedback”
