October’s Committee of the Whole delivers a very busy Infrastructure, Development and Enterprise Services agenda with two of the biggest infrastructure projects coming down in the not-too-distant future. Mayor Cam Guthrie called an emergency meeting of city council for Monday at 6 pm to discuss extending the end date for the Downtown Dining District. The district is currently schedule to close on Monday, but an open letter from the people running expanded patio service there threatened immediate job losses if they’re not allowed to continue for a few more weeks. After months of speculation and concern about the fate of the new main branch of the Guelph Public Library, the City of Guelph has announced that they’ve updated the plan which will hopefully allow for a more cost-effective version of the project to proceed. September’s planning meeting will be a busy one with three statutory public meetings; two will amend projects already approved, and the last one is for another new high rise development along Gordon Street.
