One Outbreak Down, One to Go at Guelph General

This time last week news broke that there was another COVID-19 outbreak at Guelph General Hospital, it was the first one of 2022, but it was not, as it turned out, the last. Earlier this week, the Hospital announced that they had a second, separate outbreak on a different floor, but on this Friday there’s at least some good news in that the Hospital is back to having just one outbreak. Last Minute Details Before Monday’s Re-Opening Announced

The anticipated re-opening of the Ontario economy is Monday, and there have been some last-minute details released from both the Provincial government and the local public health unit. Locally, a public health order issued in December will be rescinded on Monday, and there have been some adjustments to the re-opening protocols from the Province while all levels are sending out a message that COVID is something we have to get used to. U of G Execs Confident They’re Ready for Monday Re-Opening

The University of Guelph re-opens for in-person learning on Monday, and members of the executive team held a town hall on Thursday to send students, parents, staff and faculty a unified message: They were ready for the return, and all measures are being taken to make sure everything will be as safe as possible. Yes, There’s Another COVID-19 Outbreak in Guelph General

As people everywhere keep hoping that we’ve turned the corner with the Omicron variant, there was bad news coming out of the Guelph General Hospital late on Tuesday. For the second time in less than a week, a new COVID-19 outbreak has been declared at the hospital, one floor up and on the opposite side of the building where one more patient and one more staff member have now caught the virus. U of G is Going Back to In-Person Classes Next Week

One week from today, the University of Guelph will welcome people back to in-person classes. It’s about a week later than originally planned in December, but it’s a return to campus at a time when health authorities are hoping that the worst of the Omicron wave is in the rearview mirror. Still, the senior leaders of the U of G are confident that they’re ready to deal with people on campus again in the safest possible way. Biggest Anti-Lockdown Rally Yet Storms Old Quebec Street

The Guelph edition of this weekend’s nation-wide protest against anti-lockdown measures and vaccine mandates was the largest such gathering in Guelph yet, and the emboldened crowd made it a road show. After hearing speeches in front of City Hall, a few hundred people marched up Wyndham Street, and entered Old Quebec Street maskless as an act of organized defiance. Guelph General Hospital’s Got a New Outbreak to Go With the Old One

Almost exactly one month after a COVID-19 outbreak was declared at the Guelph General Hospital, and just one week after the Hospital’s oxygen tank was so dangerously low that a Code Orange was declared, there’s a whole new outbreak on Delhi Street. Late on Friday afternoon, the Hospital announced that they are battling another outbreak of COVID-19 with one staff member and one patient testing positive. New Framework Alert: Ontario Starts Re-Opening on January 31

After being teased through several media sources of Wednesday night, Premier Doug Ford announced (on time) on Thursday morning that the re-emergence from lockdown will begin on January 31. The phased approach will see three-weeks between the initiation of each part of the plan, which Ford and company believes will give Ontario the best strategy to manage both the virus and the economy. Elliott and Moore Say There’s Reason for Hope (Not a Guarantee)

Will Ontario businesses be allowed to open again exactly one week from now? That was not a question firmly answered by the Minister of Health and the Chief Medical Officer of Health on Wednesday at a media conference. One day after Premier Doug Ford told an Ottawa radio station that there will be good news about the lockdown conditions later this week, Christine Elliott and Dr. Kieran Moore seemed to signal that’s still TBD.
