After a summer break that actually included one closed door meeting to launch the search for the new CEO, the Guelph Public Library Board of Directors got back to business with some business. The library became one of the first of the shared services to approve their 2025 budget, and they did it while shaving six per cent from the original 2025 forecast that was approved last year. It’s been over 80 days since Nathaniel Schofield, a 36-year-old Arthur man, died while in police custody at the Rockwood detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police, and his friends and family still have no idea why, how, or what happened. On Sunday, over 30 community members gathered outside The Boathouse and then marched around Carden Street and down to the Ontario court house to let everyone know, they’re still waiting for answers. That evening, they were planning on holding their annual “Bike the Night” extravaganza, but the real world entered the chat when dedicated Guelph cyclist and cycling supporter Susan Bard was killed in a collision on Victoria Road on September 6.
