RECAP: Accessibility Committee Offers Notes on Slate of Future Projects

MEETING PREVIEW: Guelph Public Library Board for February 21, 2023

This month’s Guelph Public Library Board meeting will take place on a Tuesday this month, the only Tuesday when city council isn’t meeting, which is going to make it a problem to schedule meetings going forward, especially now that three councillors are on the board. That issue will get sorted out at this coming meeting, and so will other various matters needing the board’s expertise and consideration. This Week at Council: New Tower Downtown and the Integrity Commissioner

The first planning meeting of the year was a big one, and size did matter. Council discussed the merits and demerits of a redevelopment that could see a 23-storey mixed-use residential building constructed at the corner of Wellington and Wyndham, but a decision on that will come later. In the meantime, the Integrity Commissioner came to town to give council the lowdown on how to avoid conflicts of interest. RECAP: One Short on Quorum So No Transit Committee Meeting this Month

Sometimes you go to a meeting and there’s no meeting. The Transit Advisory Committee was one member shy of quorum for this month’s gathering – one person was feeling unwell and two were unfortunately out of town – so the business of TAC’s February meeting now moves to March. In the meantime, the members who were able to attend got a chance to check out the City’s first EV bus live and in-person in its natural habitat. RECAP: Police Board Hears About BEAT Success and Strat. Plan Objectives

February’s Guelph Police Services Board meeting was a success story, and that success belonged to the Break Enter Auto Theft unit. The efficacy of that unit was the main point of interest at this month’s board meeting, and there was also some discussion about accomplishing the goals of the Service’s Strategic Plan after a very consequential year that was filled with both challenges and opportunities according to Chief Gord Cobey.
